Abstract

The dynamic nature of our digital landscape implies that the traditional concepts of human rights may require some adaptation. This essay explores the pressing issue of privacy threats posed by Pegasus. Utilizing a qualitative argumentative approach, this essay examines the concepts of privacy and surveillance in the aftermath of the Pegasus eavesdropping incident and other spyware developments. The study asserts that privacy should be considered a fundamental and inherent right for all individuals in the era of digital technology, advocating for the recognition of digital privacy as a human right. Furthermore, the essay highlights the importance of privacy in the context of pervasive surveillance, drawing insights from the Discourse School of Human Rights. The essay suggests that it is essential for policymakers and activists to prioritize privacy rights considering the ongoing threats posed by malware such as Pegasus.
